Telangana junior doctors call off strike after talks with government

Hyderabad: Telangana junior doctors have called off their proposed strike after reaching an agreement with the state government. The strike was originally scheduled to begin on June 30.

The announcement came after the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) Representatives met Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha on June 29. Prior to the talks, they thanked the minister for approving a 15% hike in stipends for medical students and residents.

The government issued a GO implementing the hike, which will benefit interns, PG students, super-specialty trainees, and senior residents. According to the revised structure, medical interns will now receive ₹29,792 per month.

Postgraduate students in their first year will be paid ₹67,032. The second-year stipend is set at ₹70,757, while final-year PGs will receive ₹74,782. Super-specialty students in their first year will also receive ₹1,06,461—equal to the amount sanctioned for senior residents.

JUDA representatives said the government also committed to upgrading facilities across all medical colleges. Based on these assurances, they confirmed that the strike had been called off.
