Hyderabad: Telangana has turned its focus to restoring the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages under the Kaleshwaram project, following a report by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA). A high-level meeting on Monday brought together irrigation department Special Chief Secretary Rahul Bojja and representatives from construction firms L&T, Navayuga, and Afcons to chalk out next steps.
Sources say the first step will be testing. Borehole and core sample tests are to be carried out by the respective companies, with all data sent to CWPRS in Pune. The firms have also been asked to arrange necessary testing equipment.
At Medigadda, where water levels remain high, and Annaram, where sand has accumulated significantly, discussions centred on how to access key internal areas for inspection. The government will foot the bill for these tests. Officials noted that some dues for similar testing done last year remain pending.
Construction companies pointed out various current impediments – ranging from water flow at Medigadda to sand blockages at Annaram and other issues at Sundilla. Irrigation ENC Anil Kumar reportedly asked for a comprehensive status report on each barrage. A directive has been issued for the companies to submit this within two days.
