HYDERABAD: In response to a worrying surge in kidney disease cases, the Telangana Health Department has launched an urgent intervention in Malagurjala village of Bellampalli block, Mancherial district, by organising a special Kidney Health Camp.
The initiative follows reports that over the past five years, 25 residents of the village have died due to kidney-related ailments, while another 40 are currently suffering from similar conditions.
Reacting swiftly after media coverage, Telangana Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha dispatched a team of specialists from NIMS (Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences) to the village. The team has begun collecting blood and urine samples through door-to-door visits to determine the root cause of the outbreak.
Affected individuals are being provided with free medical assistance and medicines. Many locals, who rely on farming and manual labour, shared that they are forced to undergo dialysis once or twice a month—placing a severe financial burden on their families.
The Health Minister has directed officials to test water samples from the area to investigate possible environmental causes. He also instructed the preparation of a comprehensive report and a complete list of those affected.
Authorities are expected to announce further steps once the preliminary findings are analysed.
