Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has told legal and irrigation officials to fight strongly for the state’s rightful share of 904 TMC in Krishna river waters. He made it clear that Telangana will not give up even one drop, whether it is regular flow, flood water, or surplus water.
Final arguments in Delhi tribunal this month
Revanth Reddy held a review meeting at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). He asked departments to collect and submit all necessary records and legal proof. Telangana will present its final arguments before the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal in Delhi on September 23, 24, and 25.
CM blames past government for injustice
The Chief Minister said Telangana must undo past injustices and claim its full share. He blamed the previous government for giving in to Andhra Pradesh and failing to secure a fair water deal. Legal experts told him that Andhra Pradesh is now using Telangana’s earlier agreement of 299 TMC as proof in the case.
Complete project records to be submitted
Revanth Reddy asked officials to provide full details of all Krishna river projects. This includes completed, planned, and unfinished projects in the former united Andhra Pradesh. He also asked for all old GOs, memos, and documents to be ready.
Illegal diversions by Andhra Pradesh alleged
The CM accused the past government of failing to defend Telangana’s rights. He said this allowed Andhra Pradesh to illegally draw 512 TMC while Telangana got only 299 TMC. He also said Andhra Pradesh is now diverting 10 TMC daily from Pothireddypadu before the Srisailam reservoir fills. This water is being sent to other regions using expanded canals and lift schemes like Pattiseema, Pulichintala, and Chintalapudi.
Hydropower projects at risk
He warned that these illegal diversions could shut down hydropower plants at Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar, and Pulichintala. This would disrupt cheap power supply to the state.
904 TMC needed for dry zones
Revanth Reddy stressed that Telangana, as a new state, has full rights to 904 TMC. He said this water is vital for dry regions like Mahbubnagar, Ranga Reddy, and Nalgonda. He asked lawyers to explain how unfinished projects have kept Telangana from using its rightful share.
The CM called this tribunal hearing a major chance to secure Telangana’s water future. He told the legal team to treat it as a top priority and not miss this opportunity.
Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy will attend the hearing in Delhi. Others at the review meeting included Supreme Court lawyer C.S. Vaidyanathan, former CWC Chairman Kushvinder Vohra, and irrigation advisor Aditya Nath Das.
