Hyderabad: Liquor sales in Telangana surged during the Dasara festival despite a one-day ban on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti. According to Excise Commissioner Harikiran, sales on September 30 and October 1 alone touched ₹419 crore.
Officials said liquor shops recorded an exceptional ₹333 crore in sales on September 30. They noted that sales doubled from September 26 compared to normal days, driven by festival demand.
Telangana liquor sales cross record levels during Dasara
Excise authorities estimated that total sales during the Dasara season could approach ₹1,000 crore across the state. The Commissioner pointed out that festival periods consistently mark peak consumption in Telangana, with Dasara remaining a key driver of sales.
The pattern showed buyers stocking liquor in advance of the ban and continuing purchases immediately after, sustaining high volumes through the festive week.
