HYDERABAD: The Telangana Transport Department has issued a significant notification for all vehicle owners, mandating the installation of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on vehicles registered before April 1, 2019.
Applicability and Deadline
The directive applies to all types of vehicles — including two-wheelers and four-wheelers — that were registered in Telangana on or before April 1, 2019. These vehicles must be fitted with HSRPs by the deadline of September 30, 2025.
HSRPs are tamper-proof and standardised number plates embedded with advanced security features, aimed at improving vehicle traceability and enhancing road safety.
Penalties for Non-Compliance
Vehicle owners who fail to comply with the mandate before the specified deadline will face serious consequences, including:
• Denial of transport-related services such as ownership transfer, address change, and issuance of fitness certificates.
• Legal action, along with fines or penalties, as per applicable provisions.
Why HSRP?
The move is aimed at:
• Preventing vehicle theft
• Standardising number plates across India
• Aiding better vehicle tracking and enhancing overall road safety
What Vehicle Owners Should Do
Owners of vehicles registered prior to April 1, 2019, are advised to:
1. Visit the official HSRP booking portal authorised by the state government.
2. Schedule an appointment for HSRP installation.
3. Ensure the plate is fitted well before the September 30, 2025 deadline.
