Hyderabad, January 28: In a recent initiative, Telangana’s Minister for Forest, Environment, and Endowments, Konda Surekha, adopted four animals from Hanamkonda’s Kakatiya Zoological Park. The adoption includes a Nilgai, a Sambar deer, a Chousingha, and a wild ox. The Assistant Curator of the zoo, Mayuri, visited the minister’s residence in Ramnagar, Hanamkonda, to complete the adoption process. Minister Surekha contributed Rs. 2 lakh online, allocating Rs. 50,000 per animal for their annual food and care.
Minister Surekha appealed to bird and animal enthusiasts to come forward and adopt wildlife from zoos. She highlighted that individuals, organizations, and associations can adopt various creatures, ranging from small birds and turtles to tigers, for periods of three months, six months, or a year, based on their capacity. The Forest Department provides guidelines to facilitate such adoptions, allowing patrons to choose animals according to their preferences.
Furthermore, the minister emphasized the benefits of such contributions, noting that payments made towards wildlife adoption are eligible for income tax exemptions and other advantages. She urged forest officials to raise public awareness about these incentives to encourage greater participation in wildlife conservation efforts.
This move aims to foster a collaborative approach to wildlife conservation, inviting the community to play an active role in the care and preservation of zoo inhabitants.
