Hyderabad: Telangana Minister Seethakka said the Congress government was committed to making women self-reliant and independent. She declared that the state wanted women to live like “maharanis” with dignity and financial strength.
The minister addressed the Indira Mahila Shakti programme at Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy Stadium in Yousufguda. She said women earlier had to depend on men for money. However, the Congress government introduced special schemes to ensure their economic empowerment.
Telangana government schemes aim to make women self-reliant
Seethakka said free bus travel for women began after Revanth Reddy became Chief Minister. She added that the government provided sewing machines and set up food processing units for women. In addition, it handed over the management of grain procurement centres in rural areas to women’s groups.
She said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy gave top priority to women’s welfare. According to her, the government’s free bus scheme empowered women, while the BRS party insulted women by criticising the initiative.
