Hyderabad: Telangana ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Seethakka said the state government was committed to the holistic development of women. On Wednesday, they inaugurated a Mahila Bhavan at NBT Nagar in Banjara Hills.
Mahila Bhavan inaugurated at NBT Nagar
The government built the facility with ₹93.5 lakh. GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender, and Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha joined the ministers for the event. Later, the leaders laid the foundation stone for a new Anganwadi building that will cost ₹29.8 lakh.
A large gathering of women attended the programme. Speaking at the event, Ponnam Prabhakar said projects that once remained on paper were now becoming reality across Hyderabad. Therefore, he called the Mahila Bhavan proof of the government’s commitment.
The minister listed welfare schemes such as new ration cards, 200 units of free electricity, fine rice distribution, Indiramma housing, free bus travel, and zero-interest loans for women’s groups. Moreover, he said these initiatives were reaching families across the state.
Govt schemes aim at women’s empowerment
Seethakka said the government had taken up welfare and development programmes with the goal of women’s empowerment. She stressed that the state was supporting women in every sector. In fact, she said self-employment schemes were helping women stand on their own feet.
Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi said the Mahila Bhavan fulfilled a 15-year dream of NBT Nagar residents. She explained that GHMC resolved legal hurdles with determination and completed the project. Furthermore, she said the facility would serve as a venue for training, group meetings, and women’s programmes.
GHMC Commissioner R. V. Karnan, Khairatabad Zonal Commissioner Anurag Jayanti, and other officials also attended the programme.
