The campaign for Telangana MLC elections concludes today at 4 PM, with polling scheduled for February 27. Section 144 and liquor sale restrictions will be in place across constituencies.
HYDERABAD: The campaign for the upcoming Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections in Telangana will conclude today at 4 PM. As per the Election Commission’s guidelines, all campaigning activities must cease 48 hours before polling, which is scheduled for February 27.
The elections will be held for the Karimnagar-Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies, as well as the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ constituency. Major political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have fielded candidates, while the Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) have opted to remain neutral.
Key Contests in MLC Elections
In the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ constituency, sitting MLC Alugubelli Narsireddy is seeking re-election under the United Teachers’ Federation (UTF) banner. He faces competition from Harshavardhan Reddy, founder of Telangana Progressive Recognized Teachers Union (TPRTU), Sripal Reddy, state president of the Progressive Recognized Teachers Union – Telangana State (PRTU-TS), Sarvotham Reddy from BJP, and former MLC Pula Ravinder, backed by BC associations. A total of 19 candidates are contesting in this constituency.
For the Karimnagar-Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad Graduates’ constituency, 56 candidates are in the fray. Meanwhile, 15 candidates are contesting for the Teachers’ constituency in this region.
Election Code of Conduct and Restrictions
From 4 PM today, public meetings, rallies, and gatherings will be prohibited. The Election Commission has also banned bulk SMS campaigns during this period to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
Section 144 will be enforced across all constituencies until polling concludes, restricting unlawful assembly. Additionally, liquor shops in the combined Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda districts will remain closed for the next 48 hours as part of election regulations.
With 25,797 graduate voters across 12 districts, the upcoming elections are expected to be a significant political event in Telangana.
