The Election Commission has issued a notification for MLC elections under the MLA quota in Telangana, with the nomination process now underway. Voting is scheduled for March 20.
HYDERABAD: The process for filling vacant MLC seats under the MLA quota in Telangana has officially commenced following the Election Commission’s notification. The nomination process is now open, setting the stage for the elections.
MLC Election Schedule
• Nomination Submission: March 3 to March 10
• Scrutiny of Nominations: March 11
• Last Date for Withdrawal: March 13
• Polling Date: March 20 (9 AM to 4 PM)
• Counting of Votes: March 20 (from 5 PM onwards)
• Election Completion Deadline: March 24
The tenure of current MLCs – Mahmood Ali, Satyavathi Rathod, Sheri Subhash Reddy, Yegge Mallesham, and Mirza Riyazul Hussain—ends on March 29. These seats will be filled through voting by MLAs.
The Congress party is currently considering multiple aspirants for the MLC seats. Party members are advocating for candidate selection based on social and political considerations. The final list of Congress candidates is expected after internal discussions with the party high command.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which holds 38 MLA seats, including 10 MLAs who have shifted allegiance, is also deliberating its candidate strategy.
Meanwhile, the AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen), with seven MLAs, and the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), with eight MLAs, are yet to announce their stance. Both parties are expected to decide whether to field independent candidates or extend support to other parties.
