The Telangana MLC elections for Teachers’ and Graduates’ constituencies will be held on February 27. With multiple candidates in the fray, the contest has become intense, sparking discussions among voters.
HYDERABAD: The stage is set for the Telangana Legislative Council elections for Teachers’ and Graduates’ constituencies, scheduled for February 27. Polling will be conducted from 8 AM to 4 PM in the erstwhile districts of Karimnagar, Medak, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Warangal, and Khammam. The election campaign officially concluded on Tuesday evening, with candidates making their final push to win over voters.
Officials have completed all necessary arrangements for the polls, which will see a large number of candidates in the fray. In Karimnagar, two MLC seats are up for election, with 56 candidates contesting. Of these, 15 are vying for the Teachers’ MLC seat, while 19 are in the race for the Nalgonda Teachers’ MLC position. The contest is expected to be highly competitive, with many predicting that no candidate will secure victory through first-preference votes alone. Discussions among teachers and graduates have intensified over the allocation of second, third, and fourth preference votes. Allegations have also surfaced regarding some candidates attempting to lure voters with incentives.
High-Stakes Battle in Teachers’ and Graduates’ Constituencies
The Nalgonda-Warangal-Khammam Teachers’ constituency has attracted significant attention, with several strong contenders. Among them is Pingili Sripal Reddy from PRTU-TS, who has campaigned on promises such as the abolition of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), restoration of the old pension scheme for 2003 DSC teachers, and quarterly promotions for teachers. Sitting MLC Alugubelli Narsi Reddy has focused on his past service, highlighting that he utilized 100% of MLC funds to strengthen government schools. Meanwhile, JACTO candidate Pula Ravinder has pushed for BC (Backward Classes) empowerment and highlighted his contributions to the education sector. Other key contenders include Puli Sarottam Reddy (TAPAS-BJP), Harshavardhan Reddy (TPRTU), and Kolipaka Venkata Swamy (CPSEU).
In the Karimnagar-Medak-Adilabad-Nizamabad Teachers’ constituency, sitting MLC Kura Raghotham Reddy is seeking re-election, banking on his experience and strong teacher network. However, he has accused the PRTU-TS leadership of selling party tickets. Malka Komurayya (TAPAS-BJP) has promised to address the issues of government and Gurukul school teachers, while Vanga Mahender Reddy (PRTU-TS) has campaigned for unified service rules and better PRC benefits. The competition remains fierce, with several other candidates, including Ashok Kumar (TPTF) and Tirumala Reddy Inna Reddy (CPSEU), also in the race.
In the Karimnagar-Medak-Adilabad-Nizamabad Graduates’ constituency, key candidates include Chinnamail Anji Reddy (BJP), V. Narender Reddy (Congress), Prasanna Hari Krishna (BSP), former Karimnagar Mayor Ravinder Singh, and former TRASMA President Yadagiri Shekar Rao.
With polling just a day away, the competition remains unpredictable. The results will ultimately depend on voter turnout and preference votes, making the elections a crucial test for all candidates.
