Suryapet: With a renewed pledge to transform Telangana into a model state of inclusive growth and progress, Irrigation & Civil Supplies Minister Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy unfurled the national flag at the Integrated District Office Complex in Suryapet on Monday, marking the state’s 12th Formation Day. He paid homage to the martyrs of the Telangana movement, emphasising that their sacrifices laid the foundation for the state’s development journey.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister highlighted Telangana’s commitment to the “Telangana Rising – 2047” vision document, a roadmap crafted under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to make Telangana a national leader in welfare, social justice, green energy, innovation, industry, tourism, and transparent governance. He said the state government had formulated key policies, including the Welfare and Social Justice Policy, Green Energy Policy, Innovation and Industrial Policy, and Tourism Policy, to achieve these ambitious goals.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said that farmers were at the heart of Telangana’s growth story. Over the past 18 months, 25,35,964 farmers had benefited from the Rs 20,617 crore crop loan waiver. Every grain of paddy was procured at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), with payments credited within 24 hours, a hallmark of Telangana’s commitment to prompt service. The state government had paid a Rs 500 per quintal bonus on fine paddy. These initiatives had boosted agricultural production, making Telangana a model for agricultural procurement in India. Farmers in the state had produced 2.9 crore tonnes of paddy, a record high that placed Telangana among the top contributors in the country.
He said irrigation infrastructure had expanded rapidly, with modernisation works undertaken on major canals, including Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal, Mukthala Branch Canal, Janapadu Branch Canal, and several lift irrigation schemes to bring more land under cultivation. He added that abundant water supply from the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal, Musi Project, and SRSP Stage 2 was ensuring uninterrupted irrigation for farmers, while the government was also focusing on the rejuvenation of existing lift irrigation schemes and sanctioning new ones where necessary. The government was also implementing the Bhu Bharathi Act to modernise land records, with pilot projects successfully completed in select mandals and a phased rollout planned from June 3 across 22 remaining mandals.
“The government is committed to empowering women through the Mahalakshmi scheme, which provides free RTC bus travel, subsidised LPG cylinders at Rs 500, and 200 units of free electricity. Indira Mahila Shakti centres and canteens, along with self-help groups and Sri Nidhi loans, are helping women achieve economic independence,” he said.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Telangana’s flagship free fine rice distribution scheme ensured that every ration cardholder received 6 kg of fine rice per person per month through fair price shops, strengthening food security. He said the Congress government was distributing fine rice at a cost of over ₹13,000 crore annually, ensuring that nearly 3.10 crore people, about 84 per cent of Telangana’s population, benefit from the scheme. He described this as a revolutionary decision that would bring significant change in the lives of the people. To improve efficiency, the state distributed three months’ rations at once for June, July, and August 2025, 18 kg per person, 105 kg per Antyodaya family, and 30 kg per Annapurna family, ensuring uninterrupted supply to families. Thousands of new ration card applications had been approved, reflecting the Congress government’s commitment to leaving no family behind.
In housing, 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses were under construction, each receiving Rs 5 lakh in phased payments. Health services had been expanded through the Rajiv Aarogyasri scheme, now offering Rs 10 lakh annual coverage per family. The Telangana Government Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation was building new hospitals, critical care blocks, and nursing colleges, he said.
To support youth and education, the government was implementing the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam programme to create employment opportunities and skill development. Intermediate students were receiving free textbooks and coaching for competitive exams. Law and order had been strengthened with Dial 100 ensuring police response within minutes, while She Teams, Police Bhavans, and legal awareness programmes empowered women and children.
The Minister said that Hyderabad was transforming into a global hub, hosting major events like the AI Global Summit, BioAsia, and Miss World. The city’s growth included Metro Rail expansions, cantonment integrations, and the development of a 30,000-acre Future City.
Turning to the Suryapet district, the Minister detailed the local impact of these state-level initiatives. He urged district officials to work transparently and resolve complaints promptly to maintain public trust. Irrigation coverage now spans 5,85,464 acres across projects like Nagarjunasagar, Musi, Sriramsagar Phase-II, tanks, and lift irrigation schemes. Major works under Betutanda, Redlakunta, Nakagudem, Mukthala Branch Canal, Rajiv Gandhi LIS, and Rajiv Shantinagar LIS were progressing. Canal modernisation included Nagarjunasagar Left Canal (Rs 29.02 crore), Mukthala Branch Canal (Rs 184.60 crore), and Janapadu Branch Canal (Rs 52.11 crore). Division offices at Huzurnagar and Kodad were being built with Rs 13 crore.
Paddy procurement centres in Suryapet had purchased 3,25,601 metric tonnes of paddy from 50,992 farmers, amounting to Rs 755.39 crore, with Rs 550.54 crore credited. A Rs 500 bonus on coarse paddy had benefited 7,128 farmers, with Rs 25.17 crore deposited.
