Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Wednesday said Telangana would soon bring a New Education Policy with major reforms. He reviewed the draft framework at the Secretariat and stressed that the state’s policy should be strong enough to influence national reforms.
The Chief Minister said poverty could be removed only through education. He noted that 1.10 lakh engineering students graduate each year, yet only 15 percent get jobs. He added that the state allocated ₹21,000 crore for education, but 98 percent of it goes to salaries.
CM calls for reforms in schools and higher education
Reddy said school education carried serious gaps. He pointed out that 34 lakh students study in 11,000 private schools while only 18 lakh attend 27,000 government schools. Therefore, he said reforms from Classes 1 to 12 were essential.
He recalled the role of Osmania and Kakatiya universities in shaping Telangana education. Moreover, he said the government must now step forward and strengthen its role. He urged experts to provide concrete suggestions. He added that his goal was to secure a better future for 73 lakh young people through careful planning.
Reddy said he requested the Union Finance Minister to exempt education loans from FRBM limits. Finally, he declared he was ready to face any political obstacles to achieve real change in education.
