Hyderabad: Telangana has cleared the rollout of welfare benefits to new ration cardholders, preparing to link them to key schemes including Aarogyasri. Officials said around 7 lakh new cards are being distributed, covering over 30 lakh individuals.
To speed up access, the government has drawn up a special action plan. A state-wide drive will be launched, with officials visiting beneficiaries directly to record details and complete integrations, avoiding office queues. Aarogyasri Trust has already set up a dedicated cell to compile new enrolments and ensure quick activation of healthcare services.
New cardholders will also become eligible for flagship welfare programmes like Gruhajyothi, Indiramma housing, and Mahalakshmi Cheyutha. Applications for these schemes are expected to open soon, with detailed eligibility rules and instructions likely to follow.
Until now, around 90.1 lakh families in Telangana held ration cards, covering roughly 2.84 crore beneficiaries across various schemes. With over 3.5 lakh new cards already issued and a target of 7 lakh in sight, the government is pushing to close the welfare gap for thousands of families who’ve been left out due to lack of documentation. This latest round of distribution is aimed squarely at fixing that.
