HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has announced a significant update to its public distribution system by introducing new ration cards with color codes to distinguish between Above Poverty Line (APL) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. Beginning in April 2025, the government will issue green-colored ration cards to APL families and tricolor (three-colored) cards to BPL families.
Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that the new ration cards would be distributed to eligible families without any complications. He emphasized that there is no need for concern regarding the issuance process, as all eligible beneficiaries will receive their respective cards.
The introduction of color-coded ration cards aims to streamline the identification process within the public distribution system, ensuring that subsidies and benefits reach the intended recipients effectively. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing transparency and efficiency in the distribution of essential commodities to its citizens.
