Telangana reels under nonstop rain, flooding cuts off roads, homes inundated

Hyderabad: Relentless downpour lashed Telangana from early Wednesday through the night, causing widespread flooding, road washouts, and crop submersion across multiple districts.

Heavy rain was recorded across the erstwhile districts of Warangal, Karimnagar, Khammam, Medak, Nalgonda, and Ranga Reddy. Hyderabad witnessed steady rainfall throughout the day. Water levels surged in twin reservoirs with inflows from Musi and Esi rivers.

Flash floods triggered by overflowing streams and canals snapped road links in several areas, inundated paddy fields, and submerged homes. In Mulugu district’s Venkatapuram, rainfall from Tuesday night to Wednesday night totalled 46.9 cm. Other major readings included Bejjur in Komaram Bheem-Asifabad (23.4 cm), Bhimadevarapalli in Hanamkonda (14.4), Manuguru (12.8), Mamillagudem in Suryapet (11.5), Tekumatla in Bhupalpally (10.2), and Karakagudem in Bhadradri (10.1).

Floodwaters entered homes in multiple Karimnagar colonies. The India Meteorological Department warned that the upper air cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal had intensified into a low-pressure area, likely to bring more heavy rainfall over the next three days.

In Dodla village of Eturunagaram mandal, Mulugu, a mud road was swept away. Rainfall in Mangapet reached 15.4 cm, Venkatapuram’s Alubaka 14.1 cm, and Eturunagaram 18.2 cm. Rachhavagu stream washed away the temporary Venkatapuram-Bhadrachalam road.

Floodwater surrounded a BC boys’ hostel in Venkatapuram and submerged houses in VRKpur of the same mandal. In Mallur village, over 20 homes were flooded. In Murmur colony of Wazeedu mandal, 20 people were moved to relief shelters.

In a lightning strike at Pedagollagudem, Wazeedu, one youth—Thotapalli Venu (20) of Peruru—died. In Mahabubabad’s Kothaguda, E. Naresh (30) went missing while fishing in Burkapalli stream.

In Karimnagar city, 7 cm of rain in three hours flooded major roads, stranding officegoers. Commissionerate office, Ramnagar–Mankammathota, RTC Workshop, Mancherial Chowrasta, Alugunur, and Kaman Chowrasta reported stagnant water. Heavy rain continued through Wednesday night.
