HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has taken a key step towards safeguarding the welfare of migrants from the state working in Gulf countries by constituting an advisory committee to formulate a comprehensive NRI policy.
The newly formed 15-member committee will guide the state in drafting a detailed migration policy focused on the welfare and rights of Telangana-origin NRIs, particularly those in the Gulf region.
Former IFS officer Vinod Kumar has been appointed as the Chairman of the committee, which will provide structured recommendations to the government for the design and implementation of the policy.
The move comes in response to long-standing demands for better institutional support and rehabilitation frameworks for Gulf migrants who face challenges related to employment, legal aid, and repatriation.
The advisory panel is expected to submit proposals for a holistic migration policy, addressing issues such as pre-departure orientation, overseas grievance redressal, welfare schemes, and reintegration support for returnees.
