Hyderabad: Telangana Police has urged the public to exercise caution while shopping on social media, warning that fake sellers are using online platforms to cheat people of their money.
In a post on its official account on micro-blogging site X, the police said, “Social media isn’t a marketplace of trust. Don’t let fake sellers steal your hard-earned money.” An awareness video carrying department branding and messages on online scams was also released as part of the advisory.
Officials said the campaign is intended to remind citizens about the risk of fraudulent sellers operating through social media advertisements. People were advised to verify sellers and think twice before responding to online promotions.
Hashtags including #AdFraudAlert, #ThinkBeforeYouClick, and #OnlineScamAwareness were used to spread the message.
The Telangana Police asked citizens to stay updated on alerts and advisories by following its official social media accounts.
