Telangana government will directly credit pre-matric scholarships to students’ or parents’ bank accounts, ensuring transparency and timely financial assistance.
HYDERABAD: In a significant step towards improving the efficiency of pre-matric scholarship distribution, the Telangana government has announced that funds will now be directly transferred into the bank accounts of eligible students or their parents. This initiative is designed to simplify the process and ensure timely financial assistance.
Under the revised scheme, day scholars studying in 9th and 10th grades in both government and private schools will receive ₹3,500 annually. Students residing in hostels will be granted ₹7,000 per year. Additionally, children of labourers living in slums will be eligible for ₹3,500 per year from 1st to 10th grade. Those staying in hostels from 3rd to 10th grade will receive ₹8,000 annually.
The pre-matric scholarships are jointly funded by the central and state governments and are extended to students from various categories, including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), General, Minorities, and Economically Backward Classes (EBC). The primary goal of the scheme is to provide financial support for students pursuing education from 1st to 10th grade, thereby encouraging higher enrolment and reducing dropout rates.
Several states, including Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Nagaland, Tripura, and Manipur, have implemented the pre-matric scholarship scheme.
The direct bank transfer approach is expected to enhance transparency and efficiency in scholarship distribution, ensuring that the financial aid reaches the intended beneficiaries without delays or intermediaries.
