Hyderabad: The School Education Department announced rain holidays for schools in five Telangana districts after a heavy rainfall alert for Wednesday and Thursday. The order covered all government and private schools in Warangal, Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri.
In Greater Hyderabad, all government and private schools were told to run only half a day on both days. Director of School Education Naveen Nicholas issued the instructions late on Tuesday night, following the weather department’s warning.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) shared the IMD forecast of extremely heavy rain from August 13 to 15. It flagged northern Hyderabad, including Medchal district and the Cyberabad area within HYDRAA limits, as most vulnerable. HYDRAA projected 10–15 cm of rain, with isolated pockets up to 20 cm.
Consequently, HYDRAA urged residents to curb vehicle movement for three days. It also advised people in low-lying areas to shift to safer locations and remain alert. GHMC and HYDRAA teams were placed on standby to respond. The agency shared emergency helplines: 040 29560521, 9000113667, and 9154170992.
