Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to begin distributing ration rice in custom-printed bags from next month, replacing regular plastic covers.
According to civil supplies department officials, the new bags have already reached district-level godowns and will be dispatched to mandal-level warehouses by the end of this month. Dealers have been instructed to provide rice exclusively through these designated bags.
Each eligible beneficiary receives six kilograms of rice per month. Accordingly, the new bags are designed to carry exactly six kilograms. The bags will display printed information on government welfare schemes along with photographs of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy. Details of the state’s six guarantee schemes will also be included.

The civil supplies department stated that the bags are of reusable quality, allowing recipients to use them later for carrying vegetables or other groceries. The market value of each bag is estimated to be around ₹50.
Officials said the initiative aims to benefit both the public and the environment by reducing the use of plastic carry bags.
