Hyderabad: Telangana recorded 33 per cent excess rainfall this year, according to the Meteorological Department. Officials said the state received 988.3 millimetres of rainfall against the seasonal normal.
Rains started weak in June, with a 20 per cent deficit, leaving farmers worried. However, showers picked up pace from July and continued heavily through the end of the season. Officials confirmed that 293 mandals recorded above-normal rainfall, while 188 mandals reported normal levels.
Excess rainfall in Telangana highlights
The department stated that 137 mandals registered more than 60 per cent excess rainfall. Only three mandals—Mahadevpur, Nizamabad Rural, and Nizamabad North—reported a deficit.
Officials added that October rainfall across India also showed higher-than-normal levels. Telangana has recorded excess rainfall for six consecutive years, supported this year by active southwest monsoon winds.
In Hyderabad, rainfall broke two-decade records. The city received an average of 897 millimetres between June and September under GHMC limits. This marked a 43.7 per cent increase over normal rainfall. Meteorologists noted that heavy showers have persisted in the city for six straight years.
