Hyderabad: The Telangana government has instructed all district collectors to restructure Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTC) to ensure a minimum of five seats in every mandal parishad.
The directive follows discrepancies in the current distribution of seats, where many mandals have just two, three or four constituencies. The Panchayat Raj department issued orders for uniformity across the state, citing recent structural changes that left existing boundaries outdated.
Several village panchayats have been merged into municipalities and municipal corporations in recent years. Others were downsized. Jurisdictional changes also shifted some villages from one mandal or district to another. These developments resulted in uneven representation at the mandal level.
The department outlined a tight schedule for the redrawing exercise. Drafts of revised MPTC boundaries are to be published on July 8. Objections must be accepted on July 8 and 9, with resolution set for July 10 and 11. Final constituency lists will be published on July 12.
Collectors were told to either create new constituencies or merge existing ones in line with official guidelines to meet the five-seat minimum. No further clarification was offered on long-term political or administrative implications.
