HYDERABAD, January 31 — The first case of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) in Telangana has been confirmed in Siddipet. Doctors diagnosed a woman with the condition, and she is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.
GBS has been a growing concern in Maharashtra, particularly in Pune, where over 130 cases have been reported in recent days. With the first case now identified in Telangana, health officials are on alert.
According to medical experts, GBS is a rare condition in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the nervous system, often triggered by bacterial or viral infections. Those with weakened immunity are more vulnerable. Symptoms include body tingling, muscle weakness, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fever, and vomiting.
Doctors noted that the infection primarily spreads through contaminated food and water.
However, they reassured the public that GBS is not a contagious disease and can be treated effectively with proper medical care. Authorities have urged people not to panic and to maintain good hygiene practices to reduce the risk of infection.
