Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Monday said Telangana is emerging as a role model for women’s economic and social empowerment. He noted that the state is launching new initiatives to strengthen self-help groups. Bhatti was speaking at Pragathi Bhavan during the distribution of mobile fish vending vehicles to women.
Fish seeds rearing handed to women’s groups
The Deputy CM announced that the government sanctioned ₹122 crore for fish seed rearing in 46,000 lakes. He said the state will soon transfer responsibility for fish and shrimp seed rearing to women’s groups. An action plan is already in preparation.
Promoting women entrepreneurs
To boost entrepreneurship, Bhatti said the government is helping women set up solar power plants. It will purchase electricity from these plants to generate steady income. He added that the state also plans to support large-scale businesses led by women in Hyderabad.
Interest-free loans and financial empowerment
Bhatti stressed that the government aims to turn one crore women into millionaires within five years. It will do so through interest-free loans. The Indiramma government had set a target of ₹20,000 crore annually, but the present administration disbursed ₹21,600 crore in its first year alone.
He said prime land near Shilparamam in Hitec City has been allotted to women’s groups for economic expansion. Moreover, DWCRA Bazaars will be opened in every district.
‘Strong family system possible only through women’
Bhatti underlined that women must gain economic strength and global competitiveness. “Every rupee spent on welfare is boosting the state’s GDP,” he said. He accused the previous government of neglecting women’s groups for a decade, while the present one had rolled out major programs for their benefit.
Sports and Animal Husbandry Minister Vakkiti Srihari, Fisheries Corporation Chairman Mettu Saikumar, SERP CEO Divya and others attended the program.
