Hyderabad: In a major step toward streamlining emergency responses, Telangana has launched 112 as the state’s all-in-one helpline number—bringing police, ambulance, women’s safety, and disaster services under one roof.
The new system was formally introduced by Director General of Police Jitender, who said the move aims to simplify access to help in critical moments. Until now, residents had to remember separate numbers: 100 for police, 108 for medical emergencies, 181 for women in distress, 1098 for child protection, and 1077 for disaster management.
All those have now been merged into the Emergency Response Support System (TGERSS), with 112 as the central point of contact.
The helpline also brings a tech upgrade. Calls to 112 will be tracked using GPS, making it easier for authorities to respond swiftly. And for Android users, hitting the phone’s panic button can trigger an emergency call automatically.
Officials are urging the public to save the number and use it whenever they need urgent assistance – no matter the type.
