Hyderabad: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation has crossed a key milestone, with over 200 crore free bus rides availed by women under the state’s flagship public transport scheme. TSRTC on Tuesday pegged the total value of these free rides at ₹6,700 crore.
The programme, launched after the Congress assumed power in the state, has been in effect for roughly 18 months. Women passengers across Telangana can travel on RTC buses without charge, presenting only their Aadhaar card as identification.
In recognition of the achievement, celebrations will be held on Wednesday across all 97 RTC depots and 341 bus stations in the state. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has called for special events to be organised to mark the occasion.
The Revanth Reddy government has been releasing funds regularly to support the scheme, which has become one of its flagship welfare programmes since coming to power.
