Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday stayed a regional PF commissioner’s notice demanding ₹131.76 crore from TSRTC under the employee insurance scheme, citing ambiguity over the split of liabilities between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The interim order was issued by Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar during a hearing on a petition filed by TSRTC challenging the February 11 notice, which was addressed to “APSRTC” without distinguishing the dues attributable to each state post-bifurcation.
Appearing for the corporation, Advocate General A. Sudarshan Reddy argued that Telangana had already paid ₹95.19 crore under the insurance scheme between 2003–04 and 2023–25. Compensation worth ₹160.54 crore had been paid to families of 10,270 deceased employees, and all claims up to 2014–15 were cleared, he said.
He further stated that of the 600 pending claims cited by the PF office, 433 were from Andhra Pradesh and only 165 pertained to Telangana. All dues up to 2024–25 from Telangana were settled, he said.
The counsel for the PF commissioner contended that the petition was not maintainable since an appeal route existed and the High Court should not be approached directly.
The judge directed the PF commissioner to clarify why the ₹131.76 crore demand was issued in the name of APSRTC and why Telangana was held accountable without bifurcation of claims. The court issued notices to the regional and assistant PF commissioners, APSRTC, and Union Bank, adjourning the matter to July 29.
