HYDERABAD: The Telangana Scheduled Castes (SC) Classification Act has officially come into force, with the state government issuing a gazette notification to mark its implementation. The announcement coincided with the birth anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar.
According to the government order, the reservation benefits that were previously applied uniformly to all SC communities will now be distributed based on sub-categorisation. A total of 56 Scheduled Castes have been divided into three groups under the new framework.
Group A consists of 15 sub-castes and will receive 1% reservation. Group B includes 18 castes, which will be entitled to 9% reservation. Group C covers 26 castes, allocated 5% reservation. The reclassification aims to ensure more equitable distribution of benefits among different SC communities.
The notification further clarified that all future recruitment to government posts will be carried out in accordance with the new group-wise caste classification and reservation structure.
The gazette is available in Telugu, Urdu, and English, ensuring accessibility across linguistic groups in the state.
