Hyderabad: Coal production at several Singareni Collieries in Telangana has been brought to a standstill after three straight days of relentless rain, hitting operations hard at several major sites.
In the Ramagundam division, four key open-cast mines have had to shut down as rainwater swamped the pits, leaving heavy machinery immobilized and coal transport trucks stuck inside the mining zones.
Officials said daily output of nearly 80,000 tonnes has been hit, with an estimated shortfall of 1.5 lakh tonnes over two days.
Similar disruptions were reported from the Koyagudem open-cast mine in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, where both coal extraction and overburden removal have been completely suspended.
Emergency measures are underway to drain water from the mines. Officials said efforts are being made to resume production at the earliest. Safety protocols have also been enforced to protect workers from risks due to waterlogging inside the mines.
