Hyderabad: Telangana government will supply water from the Devadula lift irrigation scheme and the Sriramsagar Project (SRSP) to Suryapet district, Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said in Suryapet on Monday.
Telangana to revive SRSP for Suryapet irrigation
While addressing a Congress district meeting, the Minister said the government aims to ensure a steady water flow to Suryapet. He pointed out that SRSP’s capacity fell from 112 TMC to 80 TMC due to siltation, which disrupted irrigation downstream.
Therefore, the government will soon begin desilting works to restore the reservoir’s full capacity. It will also repair damaged canals and lining to improve water flow. Moreover, the Minister said the Congress government remains determined to provide reliable irrigation to every farmer in the region.
SRSP Phase-2 to honour Damodar Reddy
Uttam Kumar Reddy credited former minister and late Congress leader Ramreddy Damodar Reddy for bringing SRSP Phase-2 water to Suryapet. He recalled that the late leader led several agitations, including a Raktharpanam protest, demanding water for the district.
“To honour his legacy, the government will name SRSP Phase-2 after Damodar Reddy,” he said. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has already approved the proposal. Consequently, the project will stand as a tribute to the late leader’s vision and service.
Congress pushes infrastructure and agricultural growth
The Minister said the Congress government continues to strengthen infrastructure in Suryapet. Expansion of the national highway into a six-lane corridor and the approval of a new railway line, he noted, demonstrate the government’s focus on connectivity.
On agriculture, he said Telangana achieved a record paddy yield of 148.3 lakh metric tonnes. The government, therefore, plans to procure 80 lakh metric tonnes during the kharif season, spending ₹24,000 crore. He added that all procurement arrangements are already in place.
150 companies to join Huzurnagar Mega Job Mela
Turning to employment, the Minister announced that the Huzurnagar constituency will host a Mega Job Mela on October 25. The event aims to provide new opportunities for unemployed youth. During a review at his camp office, he said IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu will inaugurate the programme.
Over 150 companies from the IT, pharma, e-commerce, manufacturing, trade, and biotechnology sectors will participate. Eligible candidates include those qualified from Class 10 to engineering graduates. In addition, the mela is being organised with support from the Industries Department and Singareni Collieries.
The Minister urged local youth to make use of the opportunity and secure jobs with reputed firms. He said the Congress government will continue promoting skill-based employment and industrial partnerships to boost rural job creation.
