Hyderabad: Following the deaths of seven people and several hospitalisations due to consumption of adulterated toddy in Hyderabad, state excise authorities have launched a sweeping crackdown on illegal liquor outlets.
Over the past two days, excise officers, supported by State and District Task Force teams, have conducted raids across Telangana, targeting unauthorised toddy shops. Multiple such establishments have been shuttered and legal action taken against the proprietors.
In Greater Hyderabad alone, three illegal outlets were sealed, including one in Musheerabad during Saturday’s operation. Large quantities of spurious toddy were seized as officials moved to prevent further public health risks.
Excise department officials emphasised that the operation aims to protect consumers by eliminating unlicensed liquor vendors and ensuring only certified, safe toddy is available in the market.
