HYDERABAD: Telangana Tourism Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao stated that the state is gearing up to host the prestigious 72nd Miss World Pageant in May 2025, marking a major milestone in the state’s efforts to establish itself as a global tourism and business hub. He reiterated that the event would not only enhance the state’s international image but also contribute significantly to the economy.
Addressing the media in Hyderabad, the minister stated that hosting such a grand event is part of the government’s strategy to attract global investors and promote Telangana as a prime destination for tourism and business. The event is expected to witness participation from 140 countries, drawing international media attention and offering a unique platform to highlight the cultural and economic potential of the state.
Jupalli Krishna Rao further addressed criticisms surrounding the hosting of beauty pageants, urging detractors to view it from the perspective of women’s empowerment rather than controversy. He dismissed opposition allegations and called for a broader, more progressive outlook on such global events.
The minister also pointed out that Telangana lacked a strong tourism policy for the past decade, leading to minimal revenue generation from the sector. However, with the Miss World event, the state is set to break new ground in tourism-driven economic development.
With the preparations underway, Telangana is poised to set a new benchmark in hosting world-class events, further solidifying its place on the global map.
