Hyderabad: Telangana Ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao and D. Sridhar Babu assured farmers on Saturday that there is no cause for concern about urea availability in the state. They emphasized that the government has taken all necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted supply.
The Ministers chaired a review meeting at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat to address concerns over the Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL). They criticized the plant’s poor performance, pointing out it had functioned for only 40 out of 145 days this season.
Ministers press RFCL for accountability and action
The Ministers questioned RFCL CEO Alok Singhal on why permanent fixes hadn’t been made to prevent frequent shutdowns. They asked the National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), which owns RFCL, to send at least one rake of urea per day to Telangana from its other plants until Ramagundam restarts operations.
They stressed that Telangana should not be treated the same as other states when it comes to fertilizer supply. RFCL, they said, must act as a partner in the state’s development, not just a supplier.
If production doesn’t resume soon, the State Government plans to take the issue up with the Centre, they warned.
Officials attend high-level review meeting
Special Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Agriculture Secretary Raghunandan Rao, RFCL Ramagundam Unit Head Rajeev, and other senior officials attended the meeting. The Ministers urged farmers not to fall for politically motivated rumors about a urea shortage.
