Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Telangana for the next three days due to a monsoon trough extending from Madhya Pradesh to southern Jharkhand, positioned at 3.1 to 5.8 km above sea level. The system is expected to heavily impact the state, prompting IMD to issue multiple alerts.
On Monday, the department issued yellow warnings for Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu and Mahabubabad districts, anticipating moderate to heavy rain. The rest of the state is expected to see light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h.
In Hyderabad, light rain is expected today, with moderate rain forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. For Tuesday, IMD upgraded alerts for several northern districts: orange alerts were issued for Adilabad, Asifabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial and Mancherial due to the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain. Kamareddy, Medak, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, and Bhupalapally were placed under yellow alert.
Wednesday’s outlook keeps orange alerts active for Adilabad, Asifabad and Mancherial. Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Kamareddy and Medak will remain under yellow alert. The IMD has advised the public to avoid venturing out during heavy rainfall unless necessary and to remain vigilant in storm-prone areas.
The department said the upper air cyclonic circulation persists from Madhya Pradesh through Chhattisgarh to the Bay of Bengal, contributing to the rainfall. The five-day forecast indicates intense rain spells accompanied by thunder and lightning across ten districts, all placed under orange alert: Adilabad, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar and Jayashankar Bhupalapally.
Rainfall in the last 24 hours was moderate in Mahabubabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mulugu, Warangal, Hanamkonda, and Rajanna Sircilla districts. The highest was recorded at Bayyaram in Mahabubabad (5.86 cm), followed by Charla (5.50 cm), Manuguru (4.75 cm), Karakagudem (4.32 cm), Pinapaka (4.25 cm), Julurupadu (3.9 cm), Mallampalli in Mulugu (4.60 cm), and Duggondi in Warangal (4.28 cm).
Despite the overall increase in rainfall—56.8 mm recorded so far this month compared to the average of 227.4 mm, 40% above normal—nine districts report deficient rainfall across 230 mandals. Ten mandals have recorded severely deficient rainfall, according to the weather department.
