Hyderabad: The Panchayat Raj Department finalised the Telangana ZP chairperson reservations for the upcoming local body elections.
In a notification issued late on Saturday night, the department announced that 13 seats went to BCs, six to SCs, four to STs and the remaining eight to the general category. Officials said they prepared the lists after completing the women’s reservation process.
They explained that the department applied a 42 percent quota for BCs. Earlier, the government had already settled reservations for wards, gram panchayats, MPTCs, ZPTCs, MPPs and ZP chairperson posts for SCs, STs and BCs. On Saturday, they completed the women’s quota in the presence of political parties.
Lottery system and Gazette notification
The department used a lottery system to earmark 50 percent of the posts for women. After this, officials drew combined lists and published them. District collectors finalised reservations for MPPs and ZPTCs. RDOs prepared lists for sarpanches and MPTCs. MPDOs handled panchayat wards. The Directorate issued the final Gazette after receiving the consolidated data.
Reserved seats by category
According to the notification, the department reserved Khammam and Warangal ZP chairperson posts for STs, while Mulugu and Nalgonda went to ST women. For SCs, the department allotted seats to Sangareddy, Rajanna Sircilla and Jogulamba Gadwal, while it fixed women’s seats in Hanumakonda, Jangaon and Ranga Reddy.
For BCs, chairperson posts went to Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Karimnagar, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Siddipet, Suryapet and Vikarabad. The department reserved women’s seats in Mahabubnagar, Mancherial, Nagarkurnool, Nizamabad, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri and Wanaparthy.
In the general category, the department allotted posts to Bhadradri Kothagudem, Kamareddy, Mahabubabad and Medak. Officials drew women’s seats in Adilabad, Jagtial, Narayanpet and Peddapalli. The notification also clarified that women may contest from other categories in addition to the seats specifically reserved for them.
