HYDERABAD: Ten Telugu students studying in the United States had a narrow escape from a devastating fire that broke out in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred around 6:20 PM on Saturday evening at residential apartments located on Kellam Street.
According to reports from local media, two apartment buildings caught fire suddenly, and the flames spread rapidly across the structures. Firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after an emergency response.
All ten students, originally from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, were studying at the University of Alabama. Authorities confirmed that they were successfully evacuated from the burning buildings. However, two among them sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the hospital. They are currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and are reported to be in stable condition.
One of the survivors shared the experience through a social media post, describing how the fire spread quickly throughout the building despite their efforts to control it. The students managed to escape through a back door, but one of them was momentarily trapped due to thick smoke before being rescued.
The apartments were completely destroyed in the fire. The Telugu student community in the US has expressed relief over the survival of the students, while also extending support to those injured.
