Ten rescued from Moghalpura building fire; cause suspected to be short circuit

Hyderabad: Firefighters rescued at least ten residents trapped in a building after a fire broke out at Moghalpura on Wednesday night. The incident occurred in a G+3-storied structure where a shop on the ground floor caught fire.

According to police, the fire started in a commercial unit on the ground floor used for storing cardboard and paper. The material triggered heavy smoke, making it impossible for residents on the upper floors to escape through the staircase.

Fire tenders from Moghalpura and Gowliguda were dispatched immediately after the alert. Firefighters, upon noticing that occupants were stuck above, moved them to the terrace and helped them cross over to the adjacent building’s roof for safety.

“The residents moved up to the terrace as smoke from the shop below spread through the building. We were able to shift them out without any injuries,” said A. Balaraju, Assistant District Fire Officer.

Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have been caused by a short circuit, though the exact reason is still under investigation. No injuries were reported in the incident.
