Hyderabad: Food poisoning struck the Kallur Tribal Girls’ Ashram School in Khammam district for the third time in under two weeks, hospitalising ten students who ate snacks and dinner in the school hostel on Saturday evening.
The affected students began experiencing stomach pain and vomiting after consuming pakodas for snacks and a dinner of rice, lentils, and potato curry. Hostel staff took them to Kallur Government Hospital on Sunday morning. The school principal confirmed that all ten were treated and are now stable.
This latest incident follows two earlier outbreaks at the same hostel. On August 4, 33 students who consumed khichdi for breakfast were hospitalised with vomiting and diarrhoea. The following day, four more students fell ill after eating idlis. Tribal Welfare Department officials suspended the hostel warden following these back-to-back cases.

According to Kallur CHC doctors, 15 students showed symptoms such as vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhoea on Sunday morning. While ten were admitted for observation, all were discharged by noon and returned to the hostel. The condition of the remaining 44 hostel students is reported to be stable.
Tehsildar Puli Sambasivudu visited the school and the hospital, inspected the kitchen, and ate lunch with the students to boost morale. He stated that a detailed report would be submitted to higher authorities. Meanwhile, concerned parents and student union leaders criticised the recurring incidents and demanded accountability from school authorities.
