Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Monday shortlisted four aspirants for the party ticket in the Jubilee Hills by-election.
The contenders include Naveen Yadav, former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, former Hyderabad mayor Bonthu Rammohan, and corporator CN Reddy. Party leaders said the list would reach the All India Congress Committee (AICC) by evening. After consulting Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the AICC is likely to announce the final name within the next two days.
Jubilee Hills bypoll shortlist shows strong BC representation
Meanwhile, several Congress leaders urged the AICC to allocate the ticket to a Backward Class (BC) candidate, referring to the recent government order that raised BC reservations to 42 per cent. Consequently, three of the four shortlisted aspirants represent major BC communities in Greater Hyderabad.
Naveen Yadav, who earlier contested from Jubilee Hills on an MIM ticket in 2014, enjoys a local support base and long-standing visibility in the area. Therefore, many in the party see him as a strong contender.
Anjan Kumar Yadav previously represented Secunderabad as an MP. Similarly, Bonthu Rammohan, a former mayor, joined the Congress in 2024 after leaving the BRS. In addition, CN Reddy, a corporator from the Rahmatnagar division, switched from BRS and has actively lobbied for the ticket since his ward falls within the Jubilee Hills constituency.
AICC Telangana in-charge Manickam Tagore, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy held several meetings before finalising the names. They reportedly weighed each aspirant’s community representation, organisational reach, and financial capacity.
After the shortlisting, Mahesh Kumar Goud stated that the Congress would fight the bypoll with unity and confidence. Moreover, senior ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Tummala Nageswara Rao, and G. Vivek were given coordination responsibilities for the campaign.
