Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday deferred the hearing on petitions challenging the Group I exam results to June 30, prolonging uncertainty over alleged irregularities in the mains examination.
Dozens of candidates had filed writ petitions, arguing that mistakes in allocating exam centres and evaluating answer scripts had tainted the integrity of the entire process.
The lawyers for the petitioners, during the hearing, insisted that the exam was marred by malpractice and should be held again. They pointed to inconsistencies in assigning the examination centres and questionable answer sheet evaluations as proof that many candidates were denied a fair chance.
The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC), in response, defended its process. Its counsel told the court that independent experts had reviewed the answer scripts and maintained that the allegations were unfounded. Stalling recruitment now, they argued, would hurt thousands of candidates who had already cleared the exam and were waiting for appointments.
At the same time, the court considered additional petitions from successful candidates who pleaded for the interim stay on appointments to be lifted. They said the drawn-out legal fight was jeopardising their future.
After hearing both sides, the court directed the TGPSC to file a counter-affidavit and adjourned the case to June 30. Until then, the fate of the Group I recruitment process hangs in the balance.
