Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has enforced its revised bus fares across the Twin Cities from midnight. The fare hike, which had been announced earlier this week, applies to all city services, including Metro Deluxe and E-Metro AC buses.
Under the new fare system, ticket prices for the first three stages in Metro Deluxe and E-Metro AC services have increased by ₹5. From the fourth stage onward, the hike rises to ₹10. As a result, TGSRTC expects an additional daily revenue of ₹2.4 crore.
Revised fare details for various bus categories
In ordinary buses, the minimum fare now stands at ₹15, while the maximum fare reaches ₹50. Likewise, in Metro Express services, fares range between ₹15 and ₹60. Moreover, E-Metro Express and Metro Deluxe buses will now charge between ₹15 and ₹70. Meanwhile, E-Metro AC buses will cost passengers between ₹20 and ₹90, depending on the travel distance.
Currently, 2,931 buses operate throughout the Twin Cities, running 31,815 trips every day. About 26 lakh passengers commute daily, and notably, 70% (18 lakh) of them travel free under the Mahalakshmi scheme for women. Furthermore, around 2.7 lakh passengers use various types of travel passes issued by TGSRTC.
TGSRTC cites rising costs behind fare hike
According to officials, the fare adjustment became essential due to a sharp rise in fuel prices, maintenance costs, and daily operational expenses. Consequently, the corporation expects the added revenue to help maintain financial stability. Additionally, TGSRTC plans to use the extra funds to improve bus frequency, passenger comfort, and reliability on key urban routes.
