TGSRTC workers serve strike notice after talks fail, stir from May 7

HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is facing a major industrial action as its workers have issued a strike notice following the collapse of negotiations with the management. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) leaders served the strike notice to RTC Managing Director Sajjanar, announcing that employees will go on strike from midnight of 6 May and will abstain from duties starting 7 May.

Demands Unmet, Salaries Delayed

JAC leaders stated that RTC employees have not received their salaries till date and accused the government of failing to fulfil promises made in the Congress party’s election manifesto. They warned that the strike would intensify if their demands were not addressed promptly.

They criticised the management for focusing on profitability while ignoring the implementation of the Pay Revision Commission (PRC). The JAC demanded an immediate PRC announcement, payment of pending salaries, and procurement of electric buses to be operated directly by RTC management.

Accusations of Privatisation

The JAC alleged that backdoor efforts were underway to privatise the RTC and claimed that nearly 40,000 workers were already out on the streets in protest. They accused the government of not honouring its commitments and warned that large-scale agitations would follow if promises continued to be ignored.

Declaring their readiness for an intensified agitation, the JAC leaders confirmed that RTC employees across Telangana will launch a full-scale strike from 7 May.
