Hyderabad: In a shocking incident highlighting the dangers of digital fraud, a thief who stole a passenger’s mobile phone withdrew ₹6 lakh from his bank account.
The incident occurred at Bowenpally, where a thief snatched the phone of a passenger named Prasad Rao while he was boarding a bus bound for Nizamabad. Police said the thief accessed banking apps on the stolen phone and siphoned off ₹6 lakh from the victim’s account.
Prasad Rao lodged a complaint with Bowenpally police, who registered a case and launched an investigation.
Police caution against storing passwords
Police officials urged the public not to save banking passwords or PINs on their mobile phones. They warned against sharing OTPs, account details, or personal information with unknown individuals.
Authorities also pointed out a recent rise in cyber fraud, including scams under the pretext of “digital arrests.” They noted that cybercriminals were adopting new tactics every day to defraud people.
