Hyderabad: Tension broke out in Mahabubabad district on Tuesday after scores of poor families, led by CPI(M), forced their way into newly built double-bedroom houses. The incident took place near Dubba Tanda in Thorrur town, where 284 units constructed under the previous BRS government still remain unallocated.
CPI(M) demands allotment, poor conduct housewarming
With the local body election code in force, CPI(M) activists pressed officials to allot the houses to eligible families. Party leaders said they had made repeated appeals for a year without any response.
In the morning, residents tried to perform housewarming ceremonies. Police deployed in large numbers attempted to stop them. The families pushed ahead, broke coconuts, lit incense sticks, and entered the houses, sparking tense scenes.
CPI(M) leaders accused the government of ignoring the people with low-income. They warned of an intensified struggle if authorities failed to allot the houses. Locals condemned officials for leaving the homes vacant for years despite public demand. CPI leaders, activists, and eligible families joined the protest.
