Hyderabad: The Congress government in Telangana has sanctioned three lakh houses so far under the Indiramma Housing Scheme, targeting permanent shelter for low-income families across the state.
State Revenue, Housing, and Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy disclosed the figures at a review meeting on Monday. He said Telangana was building these houses at ₹5 lakh per unit without relying on central housing support.
Of the sanctioned houses, about 1.23 lakh are under various stages of construction. The government has fixed a target of 4.5 lakh units overall, allocating 3,500 houses for each assembly constituency at a total estimated outlay of ₹22,500 crore.
To support beneficiaries, the government is providing 40 metric tonnes of sand free for each house. Payments for construction are being transferred directly to the bank accounts of beneficiaries every Monday to maintain transparency and prevent delays.
Ponguleti urged officials to step up work in districts where progress was lagging and prepare plans for urban housing rollout. He asked them to identify available land in cities and towns, with priority on locations such as Greater Hyderabad, Warangal, Mahbubnagar, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, and Nalgonda.
He stated that under the Indiramma scheme, the government aimed to replace hut settlements entirely and position Telangana as a model state for housing the poor.
