Hyderabad: Three workers died of suffocation inside a sump during water tank construction in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Monday, in a fatal mishap linked to Mission Bhagiratha works.
The incident occurred at Anjupally village in Charla mandal, where the workers had entered the sump as part of an ongoing water tank project under the state’s drinking water supply scheme.

Two of the workers reportedly experienced severe breathing difficulties shortly after entering the confined structure and died on the spot. A third worker, who was found in critical condition, was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed during treatment.
Authorities have not released the names of the deceased. Preliminary accounts suggest that proper safety measures were lacking at the site. The exact cause of the toxic environment inside the sump is under investigation.
Officials from the local administration and the Mission Bhagiratha project team have launched a probe into the safety lapses. Further details are awaited.
