Hyderabad: The state government’s approval of a ticket price hike for the upcoming film Hari Hara Veera Mallu constitutes contempt of court, Advocate Paduri Srinivas Reddy said on Tuesday.
Reddy pointed out that a public interest litigation on ticket pricing is already under active hearing in the Telangana High Court. The case, related to the release of Game Changer, was filed by petitioner Satish and is currently being heard by a bench led by Justice Vijayasen Reddy.
He alleged that the government’s recent clearance to raise cinema ticket rates for Hari Hara Veera Mallu runs afoul of ongoing judicial proceedings and violates established orders. According to him, the court issued its last directive in the matter on July 21, and the decision to allow only a single day for filing a counter petition was “contemptuous and unethical.”
Reddy also criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, stating that the CM had previously taken a firm stance against inflated cinema pricing, but the latest decision contradicts those assurances. He said public dissatisfaction over the price hike reflects the growing discontent with the state’s deviation from its stated position.
