Hyderabad: A man went on a violent rampage with a stick in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati city, killing one and injuring two others in a random street assault near Alipiri police station, police said.
According to authorities, the attacker first targeted a 55‑year‑old beggar named Shekhar. He then struck two others S. Subramaniam and K. Kalpana who were working in a nearby parking area. All three were rushed to Ruia Hospital, where Shekhar succumbed to his injuries. The other two remain under treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported that the man created panic in the area for nearly an hour, evading both police and civilians, while shouting and wielding a stick on the streets. Public fear escalated as no one initially dared approach him.
He was finally subdued after a coordinated effort by Sub-Inspector Lokesh, Constable S. Prakash, and municipal staff, who used a net to capture him. Police also recovered a knife from his possession.
Preliminary investigation suggests the attacker may be a native of Tamil Nadu. Further inquiries are underway.
